A MEMORIAL to a canal enthusiast who died in March 2001 will be unveiled at Wakefield's Wharf, on the banks of the Lancaster Canal, near Crooklands, on Monday.
Ian MacBean had been a member of the Inland Waterways Association since 1989, was vice-chairman of the association's North Lancs and Cumbria branch from 1998-98, had travelled regularly from his home near Penrith to Chorley for committee meetings.
He was a passionate supporter of the plans to restore and reopen the Lancaster Canal back to Kendal and his commitment to the waterways was shown by the donations received in his memory that has enabled the interpretative panel to be constructed at the wharf.
