MORE than 300 walkers turned out for a three-hour cross bay walk in memory of the cockling victims and to raise cash for the rescuers.
The event last Sunday is expected to raise thousands for the RNLI.
Morecambe MP Geraldine Smith who collected about £700 said: "Out on the sands it is understandable how people can be lulled into a false sense of security because it feels serene and the views are perfect and then end up staying out there too long," she says. "We had a two minutes' silence near to where the cocklers drowned to remember those who lost their lives."
CANCER CROSSING: A cross bay walk from Arnside to Kents Bank is being held in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care at 3.30pm on Saturday, May 15, with the Queen's Guide to the Sands Cedric Robinson. More than 110 walkers raised £5,600 for the charity last year. Proceeds will help provide free care for terminally-ill cancer patients in the area who choose to die at home.
