A HARD-hitting campaign to combat the spread of fake identity cards among young people in the Eden area has been launched.
Often bought over the internet, cheap, fake IDs can appear very convincing to retailers. The campaign, organised by Eden District Council together with the local police and Cumbria County Council's Trading Standards Agency, aims to promote a list of genuine proof of age cards approved by major retail organisations.
Joint Leader of Eden District Council Colin Nineham, who initiated the campaign, said: "It is important both for the peace of mind of local retailers and for the safety of young people."
Inspector Woan of Penrith Police said: "We are keen to support and participate in any initiative that aims to tackle underage drinking and associated anti-social behaviour."
