A GRANGE mother and daughter have completed a 50-mile swim and raised £1,600 for the Parkinson's Disease Society.
Over the last ten weeks, 77-year-old Elizabeth Taylor whose husband, Harry, suffers from the condition - and daughter Wenda, 52, have been notching up the miles, five mornings a week to raise money for the charity. And, as Mr Taylor celebrated his 77th birthday, friends gathered at Berners Pool, in Grange, to watch the women complete their target.
Mrs Taylor, of Hampsfell Road, explained that she and her daughter had had to overcome their own health problems to take part in the swim: "I suffer from osteoporosis, and Wenda was born with a congenital hip condition so it has been a challenge. Even though we are regular swimmers, we're both feeling much fitter because we have been swimming much longer distances," she said. "The pool is a beautiful one, we have had a lot of support from staff and it has been a pleasure."
Anyone wishing to make a donation for the cause can contact Berners Pool on 015395-38150.
