THE Lake District's newly-returned ospreys are incubating at least two eggs and a 24-hour guard has been launched to protect them from thieves. Officials watching the site from Dodd Wood, near Keswick, say a third egg could be on the way and have had a brief glimpse of one of the eggs already. If all goes well, the eggs should hatch in early June, and the news follows the return to Bassenthwaite of the ospreys on April 10 and 14.
