WALKERS wandering on the southern slopes of Potter Fell could find themselves encountering some striking foreign visitors.
Looking something like a sheep dog in a woolly jacket, some Zwartbles ewes and their lambs can be seen grazing at High Underbrow, jut below Garnett Bridge road.
The flock of the Dutch breed, which is valued for its unique red-brown fleece of fine grade wool, belongs to Julie Winn, the granddaughter of High Underbrow farmer Edwin Bateman. The sheep were bought just before the foot-and-mouth crisis and are now here to stay at the Lakeland farmstead.
