A VILLAGE devastated by an air crash which killed two RAF men will mark the tragedy’s tenth anniversary today (Sunday).
Shap villagers will join around 60 squadron personnel and cadets as a memorial service takes place in honour of Sqdrn Ldr Mike Andrews, 38, and Flt Lt Steve Todd, 28.
The men, who were based at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire, died when their Hawk aircraft exploded in the air, peppering houses to the north of the village with debris.
Wigton man Colin Murray, who suffered minor injuries as part of the plane’s wreckage hit his van, will be among those attending the service in St. Michael’s Church.
Wing officer Chris Charlesworth, who has organised the event, said the service would be followed by a parade of uniformed cadets to the crash site where prayers would be said and wreaths laid.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the memorial, which will begin at 11am.
