A MAP showing grey squirrel control in the north of England is being created to help protect the threatened reds.
The Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST) has also set up a £40,000 control fund to pay for trapping projects.
Natural England and the Forestry Commission are working with the trust in the two initiatives, which aim to safeguard native reds in strongholds in Northumberland, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Merseyside.
