FASHIONISTAS flocked to the cobbled streets of South Lakeland’s festival town this week to soak up the latest trends and fabulous accessories.

Ulverston Fashion Week kicked off in style last Saturday with a Living Fashion display, which would make top celeb stylist Gok Wan proud.

Models became living mannequins as they showed off some of the stores’ outfits - a display that always pulls in the crowds.

“It’s always a big hit,” said Rachael Weaver, who runs Two by Two in Market Street with her mum Janet Benefield. “It was very busy.

“It’s such a fantastic event. Ulverston is very unique as we don’t have any high street stores, only small independent shops, so the Fashion Week is very representative of what we offer. It celebrates both independent retail and fashion.

“It’s just fun, which is what having a festival is all about. I think it brings a bit of light-heartedness into the town.”

One of the highlights was the ever-popular live fashion show at the Coronation Hall on Wednesday night, which saw 11 of the town’s retailers - including Pure, Olive, Pretty Things, Two By Two, Gina Cook and Working Class Heroes - parade their lines on the catwalk.

The annual Pamper Party was held in the Coro on Thursday where there were more clothes on show along with beauticians, hairdressers and various stalls.

A new party addition this year was a £250 Style Award prize, which was awarded on the night to the best-dressed person of the entire Ulverston Fashion Week.

Stylish customers were photographed in stores all week as well as at the fashion show and traders drew up a shortlist and voted for their favourite.

Proceeds from the fashion week, which concludes today (Saturday) with another Living Fashion display in shops between 11am and 3pm, will go to Ulverston Victoria High School.
