A MAN who died in a road traffic accident in Barrow yesterday has been named.
George James Johnson, 64, of Ainslie Street, died after the red Peugeot van he was driving left the road near Kwik Fit, in Abbey Road just before 4pm and collided with a tree.
George, known locally as Jimmy, was treated at the scene by ambulance crews but died later at Furness General Hospital.
His 55-year-old wife was sitting in the front seat when the collision occurred and was treated at Furness General Hospital for minor injuries.
Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed the incident, or have any information which could help officers with their enquiries, to contact PC Karl Walsh at Ulverston Roads Policing Unit on 0845 3300247.
