TOURISTS will be able to get information about events and attractions around a South Lakeland town this winter thanks to the volunteers of a Tourist Information Centre.

The Grange-over-Sands TIC will remain open six days a week (Monday to Saturday) between November 1 and February 28 following a vote at Grange Town Council on Monday.

The town council took control of the TIC in September after it was abandoned by cost-cutting South Lakeland District Council.

Councillors heard that in September the volunteers manning the TIC dealt with 3,131 customers, took 329 phone calls and sent out information to 50 people.

Jane Strawbridge, Mayor of Grange, said: “The records show that this service is doing its work. To help more than 3,000 people in the short time it has been open is remarkable. If we can keep it open during the winter so much the better.”

Councillors agreed to continue working with businesses to discuss funding for services.
