THOSE who enjoy a gentle stroll are being encouraged to step into spring by stretching their legs at one of the Lake District's most scenic beauty spots in aid of charity.
On Sunday, March 28, Marie Curie Cancer Care is holding a 3.5 mile sponsored walk around Grasmere lake.
The event is part of the charity's annual daffodil campaign that raises more than £40,000 in Cumbria and North Lancashire to provide free nursing care for terminally ill cancer sufferers who choose to die at home.
Other events being held during the two-month campaign are a record breaking Words Worth' reading attempt on Friday, March 19. At 9.15am the charity's aim is to get more than 150,000 school children in the country to read Wordsworth's poem, Daffodils.
Numerous street and supermarket collections are also included in the campaign.
It is the first time the daffodil walk has been staged by Marie Curie but, if popular, the charity plans to include it on its annual events calendar.
It starts at 10.30am at Dove Cottage and is suitable for all ages and abilities.
