Pedestrianisation of Kendal town centre is back on the cards after members of Cumbria County Council's South Lakes Area committee did a U-turn.

The long-awaited scheme to bring order to Kendal's traffic chaos and give pedestrians priority along Stricklandgate from Highgate to Library Road hit the skids last month after members of CCC failed to vote through phase three of the project.

In doing so, they not only jeopardised the £1.1million budget set aside for it, but also incurred the wrath of Stagecoach bus company boss Nigel Barrett.
