STRIKER Jamie Hughes had historians scurrying for the record books as he got back on the goal trail in double quick time.
Jammer' scored the City opener against hapless Spennymoor on 27 seconds and went on to notch his hat trick within 10 minutes.
And that meant that both City record books and the archives of the Unibond Premier Division were being scoured to see if a a quicker hat trick has ever been recorded.
But Hughes was not the only player with a smile as wide as the Lune estuary on Saturday evening strike partner Tony Sullivan also registered three times in a win that all but wiped away the memory of defeat to Bradford PA last midweek.
City were gifted the perfect start by Spennymoor keeper Gareth Downey as he failed to control the ball close to the edge of his penalty area.
Hughes needed no second invitation to end his goal drought by stroking the ball gleefully into an empty net.
Five minutes later and he was at it again, meeting a Neil Prince cross from the left to head home number two at the far post.
And there was just just nine-and-a-half minutes on the clock when a carbon copy move saw Prince yet again pick out Hughes six yards from goal: 3-0.
City were never likely to keep up the pace all afternoon and the visitors settled down and started to play at this point, having plenty of possession but not really threatening Kevin Welsby's goal.
A free kick from Phil Talbot provided their best opportunity but it was beaten away for a corner before, on 42 minutes, Sullivan decided to join the party.
He picked the ball up on the left side of midfield before running forward through a static defence and picking his spot beyond the hapless Downey.
With the points now safely in the bag City were able to turn on the style, with Sullivan again providing the spark on 67 minutes.
Receiving the ball with his back to goal, he spun quickly to beat his marker and hit a super right foot shot into the top corner all in one move to make it 5-0.
And then he completed the rout by sprinting clear of the disheartened defence on 74 minutes to easily beat the stranded keeper.
The win and, perhaps more importantly, the boost to goal difference has lifted the Dolly Blues into ninth place in the Unibond table, their highest of the campaign and well inside the cut-off point for the new Conference North to be formed next season.
CITY: Welsby, Clark, Scott, Kilbane, Elderton, Sparrow, Bauress (Clarkson 68), Sullivan Jones (Ubershcar 78), Hughes, Prince (Mercer 75).
