Morecambe are right back in the promotion play-off frame this week after picking up their fourth away win of the Conference season at lowly Farnborough.
There was to be no repeat of the debacle at Leigh last month as the Shrimps responded in style to manager Jim Harvey's call for more fire and commitment.
They took the lead as early as the seventh minute as the ever-alert Danny Carlton was first to respond to a long clearance from Morecambe keeper Craig Mawson, controlling the ball deftly before setting up Terry McFlynn to rifle his shot home from just outside the area.
And there was no holding back the tide for Farnborough as Morecambe rolled forward in wave after wave of attacks in a superb opening spell which saw them race into a 3-0 lead.
The home side's Dennis Oli, signed on loan from Division Two Queens Park Rangers, had a rare shot on nine minutes but most of the action was at the other end of the field.
Centre back Jim Bentley headed narrowly wide from a free kick flighted into the box by Keiran Walmsley and home keeper Mark Osborn had to be at his best to beat away a McFlynn shot on 15 minutes.
But a deserved second goal was just two minutes away as Carlton once again out-paced the Town rearguard to reach a long ball from the back and poke his effort beyond the stranded Osborn.
Morecambe were now looking threatening every time they got the ball, with Michael Stringfellow shooting narrowly wide after a run from midfield.
But it wasn't until the 34th minute that the defence was breached again Garry Thompson raiding down the right before crossing to where Dean Howell volleyed home first time at the far post for a three goal lead.
However, rather than making the game safe, that score served only to spark the home side into retaliation and, all of a sudden, they were back in the contest.
Bentley cleared an Oli shot off the line and Richard Hodgson saw his effort wELL saved by Mawson.
But on 36 minutes Hodgson rode two weak Morecambe tackles down the left and strode forward to place his shot beyond Craig Mawson into the far corner of the goal.
And now it was Morecambe who lost their grip being pushed back by Farnborough to such an extent that six minutes later defender David Perkins got his head to a Hodgson corner and glanced it past Mawson to make the score 2-3.
Morecambe adjusted their game plan to protect the slender lead at half time, soaking up pressure from Farnborough while looking for a decisive break to ease their nerves.
A goal by Nick Burton on 62 minutes was ruled out for off-side and then Oli missed from close range on 65 minutes after a Burton cross and Hodgson fired well wide on 70 minutes from 30 yards out.
Now it was Morecambe's turn to change gear in a thrilling end-to-end spell which saw Thompson twice force saves out of Mark Osborn and Carlton go close to grabbing his second goal of the game.
It was substitute Ryan Sugden who finally settle the issue just six minutes after replacing the tiring McFlynn.
Perkins broke out from defence to run fully 50 yards with the ball before passing to Sugden to fire a low shot underneath Osborn.
MORECAMBE: Mawson, Walmsley, Bentley, Garnett (McKearney 52), Perkins, Thompson, Drummond, Stringfellow, Howell, McFlynn (Sugden 71), Carlton (Murphy 86).
