LOCAL MP David Maclean is continuing the fight against Post Office closures in Cumbria and throughout Britain as the Government revealed plans to close a further 3,000 urban post offices.
As consignatory for the Opposition Day Debate Motion on "The Future of the Post Office Network", the MP for Penrith and the Border condemned the Government as sole shareholder of Royal Mail plc's subsidiary The Post Office Ltd for its failure to intervene in the Urban Reinvention Programme. He also censured plans for Post Office Card Accounts for failing to reflect the needs of customers especially elderly and disabled people.
Speaking from Westminster, Mr Maclean said: "There have been far too many closures of Post Offices in Cumbria. These closures affect the whole fabric of rural life and small villages where people rely on the services of their Post Office and shop. Post Office closures affect the most vulnerable in society."
