CUMBRIA County Council's trading standards department is warning the public not to deal with cold-calling builders.
The latest warning comes after an Ulverston resident was approached by two men who offered to repair or replace his ridge tiles. The resident declined and the men drove off in a white can.
Closer inspection of the roof showed that there was nothing wrong with the ridge tiles and, therefore, no need for the work.
Assistant county trading standards officer Ernie Greenhalgh said: "If you're approached at home by builders offering to do work, don't be tempted to employ them.
"Tell them to go away, and report it to your local trading standards office."
