ENGINEERS have begun to map out the possible route of a bypass between Kendal and Burneside to ease traffic problems in South Lakeland. Last July, Cumbria County Council chose the Northern Relief Road as its next major transport scheme but the project has been dogged by controversy. Last autumn, a route was indicated which meant the demolition of two houses and the route was later dropped.
