A SECOND group of cockle-pickers has been rescued after getting trapped out on the deadly sands of Morecambe Bay.

A full-scale rescue operation was launched this lunchtime after a tractor towing a trailer full of cocklers got stuck on the sands.

The incident comes only a week after 19 Chinese cocklers died.

A memorial service for the dead was held in Morecambe only this morning.

Lifeboats were scrambled shortly before 1pm racing towards Priest Skear, on the Warton sandbed.

Liz Riding, spokeswoman for Lancashire Constabulary, could not say how many people had been trapped.

By 1.12pm the tractor and trailer had been pulled to safety.
