PRAYERS were said this week for the victims of Morecambe Bay's drowning disaster.
The Anglican Bishop of Lan-caster, the Rt Rev Stephen Pedley, called for positive prayers' for anyone affected by the devastating tragedy'.
"We need to ensure that as far as is humanly possible nothing like this happens again," he said. "Prayers and policy must be advanced together, loopholes have got to be closed and regulations tightened."
Holy Trinity Church in Bolton-le-Sands opened early on Friday as news of the tragedy spread and its doors remained open throughout the weekend.
The parish also prayed for rescuers including fire fighters and lifeboat crew who faced the ordeal of recovering bodies.
"We need to pray for them and that their memories won't be too traumatic," says Rev Tom Maidment.
A memorial service is being held at 11am at the lifeboat station in Morecambe today (Thursday).
Central Methodist Church in Morecambe is holding a service at 7pm on Saturday.
And an ecumenical memorial service is planned in Lancaster's Roman Catholic Cathedral on Sunday, February 22, at 3pm.
