ACCLAIMED choreographer Henri Oguike is bringing his company of seven dancers to Lancaster for a showcase of seven pieces - including a UK premiere.
Oguike's work has been described as suggestive, intriguing and vigorous as it generates an environment combining powerful dancing and technical excellence.
Added to that, his company is passionate about the relationship between live music and dance in performance.
Audiences will be treated to contrasting dance pieces, such as Front Line - a sextet set to Shostakovich's 9th Quartet in E Flat played live by the Carducci Quartet.
Also taking the limelight is White Space, the British premiere of Oguike's multi-media septet set to a compilation of tracks performed to Scarlatti's bright and rhythmic pieces for harpsichord.
With F.P.S. (Frames per second parts 1 & 2), Oguike returns to Bill Evan's original piano recording of Piece Peace and creates a new duet exploring movement, light and sound with music by the Carducci Quartet.
Finale brings the full company together for a work set to a compilation of tracks by French composer Rene Aubry.
The Henri Oguike Dance Company was awarded the Time Out Live Awards 2001 as most outstanding new company and Henri was also a finalist in the best choreography category in The Critics' Circle Dance Awards 2002.
The event is presented as part of the Lancaster International Concert series.
