THOUSANDS of people turned out at the Burnley Balloon Festival over the weekend but weren’t able to see any of the craft take to the skies.
But strong winds did not stop the fireworks display and “nightglow” performance on Saturday night, when balloons lit up to a musical soundtrack.
Throughout Friday, Saturday and yesterday crowds at Towneley Park were entertained by motorcycle stunt riders and fairground rides.
But organiser Barry Clayson admitted the weather had been a disappointment.
He said: “We don’t need much wind to cause us a problem – anything above eight knots and these things start thrashing about all over the place.
“There’s loads to do on the showground, but people really want to see the balloons.”
