A member of the local fishermen's federation said skipper Tony Hayton from Maryport was a "very experienced" seaman.
John Hemse, secretary of the Mallaig and North-West Fishermen's Association, said his death had shocked the community.
Mr Hemse said: "Tony was a very experienced skipper and knew the waters well.
"He worked up the west coast, he was one of the boys. We're all numb with what has happened."
An investigation is being held into the tragedy.
Search teams were alerted by a caller who spotted the boat's upturned hull in waves off Ardnamurchan at around 5.10pm on Monday.
One man was pulled from the water by the crew of a yacht following a mayday call by coastguards.
The survivor, who was not wearing a lifejacket, was then transferred into the Mallaig RNLI lifeboat and taken to hospital where his condition is said to be non life threatening.
A lifeboat and helicopter team recovered the three other crewmen who were pronounced dead on their arrival at hospital.
