TEENAGE swimmer Thomas Young from Newbiggin collected the Performance Award (Disability) at the Cumbria Sports Awards presentation night at the Low Wood Hotel, Windermere, on Friday.
Thomas, a member of the NW Disability Swimming Squad, won six gold medals at the National Junior Championships.
Penrith golfer Gary Lockerbie was named the Sports Personality of the Year for his feat in becoming the English amateur champion this year, while Carlisle swimmer Craig Elliot, the fastest 16-year-old breaststroker in Great Britain, was Junior Sports Personality of the Year.
Penrith Rugby Union Club received the Team of the Year award for reaching the last-four of the Powergen Intermediate Cup and gaining promotion to North West 2 and Whitehaven Schools RU U15 boys were Junior Team of the Year for defending their national schools title.
