HOSTS of golden daffodils will be blossoming in South Lakeland this spring after thousands of bulbs were planted as part of a charity fund-raiser.
Marie Curie Cancer Care planted the bulbs as part of a national environmental campaign and to mark the centenary of Marie Curie receiving the Nobel Prize for her research in radium and radioactivity.
People have been asked to make a donation to the charity and in return bulbs will be planted either in memory of somebody they have lost or as a symbol of hope for a loved one.
The first site planted in South Lakeland was at Rothay Park, Ambleside, where a group of volunteers including staff from Barclays Bank in Ambleside and Carlisle planted approximately 2,000 bulbs donated by Hayes Garden World.
Meanwhile, the second field of hope has been planted at Maudes Meadow, Town View, Kendal, where volunteers from Kirkbie Kendal School planted 5,000 bulbs sponsored by Castle Green Hotel, Kendal.
