SOUTH Lakeland cinemagoers are once again being offered the chance to get a first look at a new Hollywood film before anyone else in the UK.
Open Range, the new Kevin Costner movie, is not due for general release until next year, but Zeffirellis in Ambleside is screening the film for a week from tonight (Friday).
Zeffirellis owner Derek Hook was offered the chance to show Open Range by the film's distributors, who want to screen the film somewhere in the UK for at least a week so it's eligible for award nominations in next year's BAFTAs.
The movie, which carries a 15 certificate, boasts an impressive cast headed by Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall, Annette Bening and Michael Gambon.
Set in the final years of the Wild West, the film tells the story of four cattle herders who help locals in a remote town to rid themselves of a ruthless rancher.
Derek tells me that the film company has high hopes for Open Range, which US critics have already hailed as a welcome return to form for the star and director of Oscar-winning film Dances With Wolves.
