A CAMPAIGN fund for fixing Kendal Parish Church’s leaky roof has been boosted by a £1,000 donation from the town’s civic society.
Canon Ron Metcalfe, who received the cheque on behalf of the 13th century church, welcomed the “generous” contribution.
“Although there is a long way to go, just to get this donation and bring the money raised up to £5,000 is a very encouraging start.” The church launched a Roof Rescue appeal with The Westmorland Gazette’s backing on August 22.
It is out to raise £250,000 to replace rotting timbers and a worn-out gutter over the church’s south aisle and historic Parr Chapel.
Without the repairs, wardens fear the roof could collapse.
