RESIDENTS in Grange-over-Sands are being urged to speak out about whether they believe the town should have a supermarket.
The town council has organised a special meeting at 6.30pm on January 12 to gauge views about a retail impact study about the town.
As previously reported, the study, which was commissioned by South Lakeland District Council, recommended that the town needed a supermarket.
However, traders and others are vehemently opposed to the idea, and say it would damage business in Grange. Last year there was opposition after Booths expressed an interest in a retail development in the town.
Town council chairman Coun Bill Wearing urged people to attend the special meeting, and to read the 100-page report rather than just the conclusions.
“I would say to people don’t believe all they say – read the report, because I think if you do that you could come to different conclusions to the district council.” The town council was also critical of the way in which SLDC had distributed the report, and said that there were not enough copies available in the town. The meeting will take place prior to the ordinary town council meeting at the Victoria Hall.
