Sunday 19th April is a day I will remember for a very long time. This was the day we unveiled the Laurel and Hardy Statue and opened County Square. It was a lovely sunny day and everything went to plan.
Ken Dodd and I arrived in County Square with Haurel and Lardy (two Laurel and Hardy look a likes) in an old Ford Car. We then held the opening ceremony. Ken Dodd went to meet some of the crowd who had been waiting in the hot sun all afternoon, by this time the crowd had reached about 2000.
Invited guests then went into the Coronation Hall for afternoon tea and Ken Dodd gave a performance of his Happiness Show in the evening. It was a lovely, lovely day.
Since the statue has been unveiled we have had a lot of visitors having their photos taken with the comedy duo
