Time is really moving quickly now, I am only a few months away from the end of my term as Mayor of Kendal.
I am still trying to fit a lot into a short period of time, nearly all my evenings in March are fully booked up not to mention the days.
I am trying to have a few last pushes for my Mayors charities, I am bag packing in Asda on Saturday the 11th of April ( if you would like to come along and help – just let me know via the Town Council office it would be greatly appreciated. The more tills I can cover the more money I can make). On the 8th of May I am having a Mayors Ball, we haven’t had a mayors Ball for a very long time in Kendal, so I thought it about time we did. Of course it will be to raise money for my charities and the organisation will be helped along by my young consort group.
The theme will be ‘local’, celebrating local food producers, local young musicians and performers.
The college will be helping with the decorations with a difference - Kendal related of course and helped by the young consort group.
On the 9th of May I will be walking from Keswick to Barrow!*! Yes the day after the Ball, I must be a little mad.
I will be walking with my sister and a team for Sandgate pool, so not the Mayors charities this time but nether the less a good cause I’m sure you will agree.
I had a home safety visit from the Fire and Rescue service last week, a very important free service they offer to all residents. I would recommend you have one, it allows you to refocus on how to keep you and your family safe. By just talking about the visit we now have a plan in place with the children in case of a fire – such a little thing but it could save their lives should we ever have a fire.
Following the visit I went along to the Leisure Centre to see another side of the Fire Service, they were holding a session in the car park about driving safely and what the consequences are when aviodable mistakes are made. like speeding. They ran a film and then gave a display of how to cut someone out of a badly smashed up vehicle using a volunteer from the audience. Thankfully this time it was just that, a display, I hope none of the young people who attended ever find themselves in that position for real.
