A MILKMAN is warning cyclists in Kendal of the perils of riding bicycles without front and rear lights after he narrowly avoided two accidents during the festive period.
Jeff Armistead, from Docker, near Grayrigg, has reported how an increasing number of cyclists have taken to the roads of the Auld Grey Town with inadequate or non-existent lighting, endangering themselves and other road users.
“I have spoken to quite a few people about it and there are lots of people who are concerned–especially those who work early mornings,” he said.
“I want people to be aware of how dangerous it is. I don’t want to get anyone into trouble, but you just can’t see them and if you do knock someone off their bike they won’t be the ones that get the blame.”
Mr Armistead, who has been making his rounds in Kendal town centre for more than 20 years, described how he had experienced two near misses in December, both of which involved cyclists with no lights at all.
