APPLEBY Grammar School has described its “delight” after Ofsted inspectors published a glowing report studded with compliments.
Teachers and governors at AGS are celebrating their secondary school being described as ‘good’ overall, and ‘outstanding’ in many areas of its work.
The school, which is attended by more than 600 boys and girls and was visited by a team from Ofsted in November, gained Technology College status in 2004 and was described as having “evolved rapidly” in terms of curriculum as a result.
Its work with the local community, and the “excellent” attitude of its students towards learning, life and each other, were all deserving of extra praise while there was special mention for staff and head teacher Andrew Lund – who inspector Judith Straw said had been “instrumental in moving the school forward” and had “an extremely clear vision for school improvement”.
“Our success is based on teamwork and strong partnerships,” explained Mr Lund. “This helps us to ensure our students gain maximum success in their examinations but also that they have access to a wide range of opportunities and extra-curricular activities.”
