A SOUTH Lakeland school has received special awards for raising the standards of its pupil’s exam grades.
Settlebeck High School, in Sedbergh, picked up four awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
The school has joined the Raising Achievement in Teaching and Learning programme. Since joining the programme, 20 per cent more Settlebeck pupils have achieved grades A to C at GCSE level, including English and Maths.
Judith Greene, headteacher of Settlebeck High School, said: “We attribute the success to a very clear focus on the skills students need to express their knowledge well in exams, as well as a real emphasis on tailoring learning to suit the individual, which in our small school we can do very effectively.
“Congratulations to all the students who worked so hard and achieved some excellent results. A very big thank you to our teachers, for their skill and commitment in helping our students achieve their potential.”
The RATL project involves peer challenge and support through conferences, school to school visits, engagement with data and mentoring and coaching.
