A POLICE chief who died of exposure on Mount Snowdon had originally driven to Cumbria “to end it all”, an inquest heard.
The body of former Greater Manchester Police chief constable, Michael Todd, was found on March 11 following a series of desperate text messages.
The inquest in Caernarfon heard that the 50-year-old had been confronted by his wife, Carolyn, when she discovered he was having an affair.
The father-of-three had visited suicide websites and drove to Cumbria on March 9 but had “bottled out” and gone home.
On March 10 he drove to north Wales and his body was found face-down in the snow the next day.
In a narrative verdict, North West Wales coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones recorded Mr Todd died of exposure when his mind was affected by alcohol, a sleeping drug and confusion due to his personal situation.
