Saturday 13th September was allways going to be a very busy day and it was.
In the morning we held the Charter Coffee Morning, which had the main aim of raising money for my Mayor's Charity. The event was very well attended, we held a raffle, tombola, cake stall and a white elephant and book stall.
Many of my fellow Councillors and the Charter Princesses came along to help me. It was a very successful event.
During the event the Princesses and I slipped away to the Market Cross to spend some time listening to the Junior Band who were playing at a concert their.
It's always a popular event with morning shoppers and visitors and when we arrived a little girl was dropping her pennies in the collection tin to say thank you to the band.
Saturday afternoon the Gardners Society were holding their Annual Show of flowers, vegetables, home produce and handicrafts.
The Princesses and I were their to present the prizes. I was told by the show President Mr. Barns that this year has been a particularly difficult year. The Springtime was too dry and Summer was wet and cloudy making it difficult to grow things. Sophie our Charter Princess bought some of the show flowers and she later delivered them to Elm Hurst Old Peoples Home in Ulverston, I thought this was a lovely gesture.
We all had to be back at the Coronation Hall for the evening entertainment by the Town Band. Gillian Benjamin conducted the Town Band who provided a varied programme of music. It was a light hearted concert with music from the King and I and Danny Boy being two of the pieces played. It was a lovely evening enjoyed by all of the audience.
