I OFTEN come on here and spout off some rubbish about Everton or the Premiership but I would just like to pay tribute to the fans of Morecambe.
I covered the open top bus tour of the town for our website after they won the conference play off final and I’ve got to say it was fantastic. The amount of people who turned out to support their home town club was unbelievable and the atmosphere was amazing.
I’ve watched a few football games and end of season hurrahs but this was right up their with the best of them. It almost brought a tear to the eye to see how much it mattered to so many people. The sheer delight in people’s faces was a joy to see – it even made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck – a feeling normally only associated with the big occasions.
People, both young and old, were dancing with delight. It just shows what football can do and why it is such a fabulous game.
What else would have the whole town partying in the streets – and all in good spirit?
For all the bad days, all the doom and gloom, disappointment and anger there are days like these and when they come along they are sweet and people are right to enjoy them.
So come on Everton let’s get some silverware next season so I can enjoy a party just like the thousands of Morecambe fans.
It was a night I will never forget! And if you want to watch some of the footage and interviews with the manager and players click on the video section on this website or visit http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/news/kendalgazettevideonews/
