What a difference a day makes – well that’s what football fans will be saying who took in the two finals at Wembley over the weekend.
On Saturday we were treated to a turgid affair where both Man United and Chelsea cancelled each other out. But on Sunday the Conference play-off final was a real firecracker and ended up victorious for Morecambe.
So what was the difference? I don’t think anyone can answer that – it’s just football. I was surprised to watch such a dull game on Saturday and find Liverpool weren’t involved!
For once I think Fergie got it tactically wrong as United were sucked into playing the same game as Chelsea. That was instead of unleashing their attacking flair as they have done to pull off results in the Premiership.
Most people have been complaining about how it was a drab game – but I don’t mind that – maybe I’m use to it being an Evertonian.
The turn off for me was the moaning commentators on the BBC John Motson and Mark Lawrenson. I’m usually a fan of Motty but I don’t really like Lawrenson – he thinks he is really smart – but he’s not.
I managed to watch the final in peace but it was as if I was watching it with a pair of moaning old women. “This is the worst I’ve seen,” remarked Motty. “I agree neither keeper has had a shot to save yet.”
And so it went on. I don’t know if it was just me but they really got on my nerves – I should have pressed mute and put the radio on.
In the end it was a good day all round because Rooney didn’t get his hand on another medal!
