UNITED - Champions of England.
LIVERPOOL - Champions of Nothing.
I know it is sad that I have taken so much joy in seeing our arch enemies lose in the European Cup final, but who could have faced having to put up with the Scousers winning the trophy six times? It was bad enough after Istanbul.
I will admit that United didn't turn up for the semi-final second leg, and I will admit that on that performance we did not deserve to go through, but at least I can say that we try to play FOOTBALL.
I just cannot see where the glory lies in winning competitions on penalties. Yes, Liverpool have won the European Cup five times, but twice they have won it on penalties, and two years ago, apart from the six minutes when they played well enough to score three goals, one of which should have easily been saved by the Milan keeper, they were completely outplayed.
The truth is that I wish United could have been in the final last night and that is the real reason I couldn't have faced the Scousers winning.
We should have won far more European Cups, particularly since 1999 - we have reached the semi-final twice and really could have picked up at least one more trophy.
At least we're only two championship trophies behind Liverpool now.
Yes I know it is sad, but for most of my childhood Liverpool fans rubbed my faces in the fact that they were winning and we were nearly men. So I think I'm entitled to a smile today.
