WITH another blank weekend in the footballing calendar for us teams who have been knocked out of the FA Cup early players have been jetting out to foreign climes for rest and relaxation.
After spending fourth round weekend sunning themselves in Portugal, this week Everton have been on a team bonding session in New York. Now this did make me wonder if it was any sort of incentive for players to do well in the cup!
Surely a training camp in the harsh weather of the Outer Hebrides or Russia would be enough to make players want to stay in the competition.
Another thought that crossed my mind this week is whether the players pay for such trips themselves or do the clubs have to fork out for them. In most jobs you would expect the company to pay but when you are raking in tens of thousands of pounds each week surely the players can afford it.
I suppose we’ll never find out.
One good idea I had was if teams get knocked out of the cup early then the club should pay for its fans to go off on holiday when otherwise they would have been watching their team in the competition.
It’s never going to happen but if your listening Bill Kenwright spare a thought for us fans suffering the taunts of the kopites while they progress in Europe and we are sat doing nothing.
If ever there was an incentive for Everton to kick on and finish strongly this is it.
