SEVERAL flood alerts have been issued across Cumbria.
With a 'heavy band of rainfall' expected tonight (December 4), flood alerts have been placed on Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk, upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater alongside Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck.
The flood alerts follow as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning ahead of strong winds and heavy rain in the coming days.
Winds of up to 70mph can be expected along the county's coastline from 3pm tomorrow (December 5) until around 6am on Sunday (December 8).
Flood alert for Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk
- Flooding is possible from Harrington to Annaside, including low-lying areas in Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont, Gosforth, Eskdale, and Bootle
Flood alert for Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water
- Low-lying land and roads from Seathwaite to Derwentwater are at risk.
Flood alert for Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck
- Areas from Coniston to Barrow-in-Furness, including Ulpha, Duddon Bridge, Broughton-in-Furness, Kirkby-in-Furness, Dalton-in-Furness, and Ulverston, may experience flooding.
The Environment Agency advises: "Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses."
