A rescue team was called when an ambulance got stuck on black ice.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was asked for assistance by the North West Ambulance Service on Friday.
It was a cold damp evening when a woman slipped and suffered a head injury.
Due to icy road conditions it was not possible for her family to take her to hospital and they called for an ambulance.
On the way there, the ambulance got stuck on black ice and was not able to carry on.
The rescue team were then called to help at Cunsey at 9.22pm.
After putting chains on to negotiate the extremely icy conditions, two vehicles were deployed.
They picked up one of the paramedics and her equipment and continued to the casualty.
The other vehicle and team members stayed to release the ambulance from the ice and help transport it back to safer ground.
The casualty was assessed and treated by the paramedic, then driven to the NWAS ambulance.
The woman was transferred to the ambulance and continued her journey to hospital.
Incident 67 of 2024 was attended by ten members of the team and took three hours and 18 minutes.
