Rosemere Cancer Centre has been designated a 'centre of excellence' for a new type of radiotherapy.
Surface Guided Radiotherapy Treatment (SGRT) is a high-precision method of delivering radiotherapy, which was already in use at the centre.
Now, it will also host radiotherapy teams from other trusts planning to invest in this technology.
The Rosemere Cancer Foundation funded the centre's SGRT equipment, initially investing £1.3 million, followed by an additional £405,000 earlier this year.
The funding was made possible by public donations.
As the regional specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre for all of Lancashire and South Cumbria, the Rosemere Cancer Centre provides radiotherapy treatment to patients from South Lakes to Barrow.
The next nearest radiotherapy treatment centre is The Christie in Manchester.
The centre's radiotherapy department treats a variety of common cancers, including breast and prostate cancer.
