A church in south Cumbria is doing its bit to support the community by fashioning itself into a warm space this winter.

Ulverston Parish Church will be hosting weekly sessions every Thursday from 2pm until 4pm, the first of which took place earlier this month.

The site on Church Walk will be used as a 'warm, welcoming' space to help people combat the cold of the season.

The sessions will provide free unlimited hot drinks, homemade cakes, newspapers, and some much needed company.

The Cumbria Community Foundation, in partnership with Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council, has been offering grants of up to £500 from the Warm Spots Fund.

Venues across the region - including Ulverston Parish Church - have been using the funding to cover energy bills, additional staff time, volunteer expenses, the provision of drinks, and other relevant costs.
