WESTMORLAND and Furness Council are gearing up their fleets of gritters across the county to keep communities safe and ice-free this evening.
It comes as road temperatures are set to drop below zero degrees on four priority routes for the first time this Autumn.
The Council said the bright yellow vehicles will be out in force across Alston, Kirkby Stephen and near Kendal from 8pm until the early hours of the morning.
A spokesperson from the Council said: “Remember, if you spot them out and about, give them a wave and a bit of space to do their job safely! We’ve got you covered.”
