A KENDAL man will be sentenced today after previously admitting that he had been in possession of an illegally owned XL Bully.

Liam Garrity pleaded guilty to being in possession of the prohibited fighting dog called 'Blue' at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on June 24.

The offence took place on May 22 this year in Kendal.

As the case has not yet been formally opened by the prosecution, no further details are known.

It comes after the Government announced last year that the dog had been added to the banned breeds list in England and Wales.

From February 1 this year, it became a criminal offence to own the American Bully XL without an exemption certificate.

The 20-year-old, of Anchorite Fields, Kendal, also falls to be sentenced for failing to surrender to police/court bail on August 20.

He will be sentenced today (November 5) after magistrates adjourned for the commission of a dog expert report to be prepared at the request of Garrity’s defence in court on October 1.
