Home by Simon Rogan has scooped both a gold and a silver at the Great British Food Awards 2024.

The team announced that they received the gold award in the Vinegars, Oils & Dressings category and silver in the Seasonings category for their fennel salt.

Industry expert Thuy Hoang recognised their award-winning coal oil as a 'prime example of Great British food and drink.'

She said: "This charcoal-infused rapeseed oil is a highly innovative product from award-winning chef, Simon Rogan of the three Michelin-starred L'Enclume, which is produced in the Lake District.

"It is a light oil with a beautiful aroma and lingering, delicate taste of charcoal, which is reminiscent of BBQ.

"This is both surprising to the palate and delightful.

"The packaging is stylishly understated.

"This oil would be excellent for dipping, or for drizzling over meat, fish, or vegetables to add an enticing smoky flavour.

"Indeed, those highly passionate about food will find creative ways to use this oil to very great effect.”

As a result of the highest accolade in the Great British Food Awards 2024, the coal oil will now be promoted across Great British Food's print, online, and social channels.

Simon Rogan MBE, recognised as 'a pioneer of the farm-to-table movement', operates four restaurants in the UK.

These include the three Michelin-starred L'Enclume, the one Michelin-starred Rogan & Co in Cartmel, Henrock at Linthwaite House in Bowness, and the one Michelin-starred Aulis in London.

In addition to his restaurants, he runs Our Farm in Cartmel, which supplies his establishments with 'fresh, seasonal ingredients.'

In response to the global pandemic, Mr Rogan launched Home by Simon Rogan in 2020.

This service offers regularly changing three-course dining experiences that can be enjoyed at home, created in The Lakes.

The Home by Simon Rogan chefs also create a range of artisanal products, including condiments, preserves, rubs, and oils, alongside gifts and seasonally inspired hampers.

Home by Simon Rogan e-commerce and events manager, Brooke Vanhinsbergh, said: "Winning two Great British Food Awards is great news.

"The individual products themselves are part of a whole range of oils, vinegars, condiments, rubs, salts, infusions, and specialist kitchen items that we are constantly adding to, each specifically developed for aspiring home chefs and food lovers to use in their own kitchens.

"All of the products in the range sit alongside our regular monthly ‘at home‘ menus, available through the Home by Simon Rogan Shop website."

Paul Burgalières, executive chef of Simon Rogan’s restaurants in the north of England, said: "We’re thrilled that we’ve added more awards to those already won earlier this year for other products in the range.

"Being recognised with both a gold and a silver award in our first year of entering the awards is fantastic.

"We are especially pleased as these recognise the expertise of the growing team based at Our Farm, who produce many of the core ingredients in the range of products we sell.

"The chefs involved in developing our range for Home by Simon Rogan, as well as the entire team behind the scenes involved in the design, retail, and distribution of everything we create, work so hard – being presented with accolades like these acknowledges all that they do."

The coal oil, sold in 250ml bottles, is priced at £11, while the fennel sea salt, available in 90g packages, is priced at £5.50.

Both are available for purchase directly from the Home by Simon Rogan website.
