FISH and chips are the staple of British cuisine. Wherever you may find yourself, you can probably guarantee that a ‘Chippy’ won’t be too far away.
Having grown up on the Fylde Coast by the seaside near Blackpool, I’d like to think I’d tried the finest of what fish and chips has to offer.
Seafarer’s Fish & Chips, located on Rayrigg Road, Bowness, was recently given a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.
I decided to visit with my partner after the takeaway was given the rating by the Food Standards Agency on September 3.
The inspection found hygienic food handling to be ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities/building to be ‘good’, but the management of food to require ‘major improvement’.
The owner said she had since been reinspected and had been awarded a five star. The official new rating has not yet been published.

Review
The takeaway is located almost opposite the famous World of Beatrix Potter Museum and is also just a stone’s throw away from the centre of Bowness, which is always brimming with tourists whatever the time of year.
We unboxed all of the food and shared the chips proportionately.
I took my first bite out of the Cod first using the wooden forks provided…and it was melt-in-the-mouth delicious.
I’m more of a haddock man myself but the fish was still delightful. I couldn’t wait to go back for more.
I accompanied the fish with chips, smothered with salt and vinegar, with mushy peas. I don’t think you can go far wrong with ‘Chippy’ chips. The portion sizes are always absolutely huge!
Next up, I delved into the nine or so bites of scampi and jumbo sausage, which were both also extremely tasty.
The chicken nuggets were what you would expect when ordering from a takeaway.
My partner enjoyed a cheese and onion pie, chips and curry sauce.
Although she enjoyed her meal the curry sauce was slightly on the spicy side for her.
Conclusion
I wouldn’t put anyone off enjoying a meal at Seafarer’s.
The staff were extremely friendly, the shop was immaculate and the food was what you would expect from a fish and chip shop takeaway.
Overall, I would score Seafarer's an 8.5/10.
