RESCUE teams were called by police to reports of a group of young children 'screaming and shouting in distress' on a Lake District fell.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called by Cumbria Police at 8.31pm on Monday, October 21 after reports of 'five or six young children' screaming 'in distress' while descending Little Mell Fell.
However, teams were stood down after investigations showed the shouts to be from two groups of excited primary school children shouting whilst on a night hike.

In a statement on social media, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said: "It emerged that one of the local outdoor residential centres had two groups of excited primary school aged children out on a night hike in the area who had been shouting backwards and forwards between the two groups.
"Once it was confirmed that both groups were safely off the fell the team were stood down. The incident lasted 30 minutes and involved two team members."
