A MAN has been sentenced in court after he was caught nearly three times over the legal drink driving limit.
Graham Wilding, of Devonshire Road, Ulverston, was driving his Vauxhall Astra Club on Lightburn Road when he was stopped by road traffic officers on August 10 this year.
The 60-year-old driver was fully compliant when police asked the man to conduct a roadside breath test for analysis as they had reason to believe he had been driving illegally.
Their enquiries proved to be correct when Wilding returned a positive sample.
As a result, he was arrested and taken into custody where he was asked to provide another reading for analysis.
The results revealed the defendant had 103 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, which exceeded the prescribed 35 microgrammes limit.
Wilding admitted the drink driving offence and another offence of failing to surrender to police/court bail on August 21 this year at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on August 24.
On October 21, following the commission of a pre-sentence report, Wilding was sentenced to a 12-month community order with one requirement of completing 10 RAR days.
He was also fined £220 and disqualified from driving for a period of 25 months with the option of completing a drink driving rehabilitation course which would reduce the length of ban by 25 weeks.
Magistrates also ordered Wilding to pay £85 court costs and a £114 surcharge.
