A GAS leak has closed a road in Windermere because of the 'likelihood of danger to the public.'
Westmorland and Furness Council served an emergency notice prohibiting the passage of vehicles along a section of Birthwaite Road from its junction with Beemire.
It is anticipated the restriction will be required for seven days.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be available via the A592 Rayrigg Road, A5074 New Road and the unrestricted section of Birthwaite Road.
Emergency service vehicles will be allowed to use the road.
Any queries can be directed to the Highways Hotline by calling 0300 373 3306 or via the Westmorland and Furness Council website.
